  • Norit products remove impurities from food, beverages, pharmaceutical products, chemicals, water and air. They also purify a variety of other liquids and gases including renewable natural gas (RNG)/biogas – a sustainable source of energy.

Process Overview

Section 1: Spent carbon receiving and handling

  • Receipt : 60% solid in 20MT ISO tank
  • Discharged and Conveying using mainly process water
  • Feed to Multi Hearth Furnace : 60% solid via dewatering screw
Section 2: Reactivation of spent carbon

  • 6 hearths MHF with 3 different stages via Drying, Baking and Reactivation
Section 3: Reactivated carbon cooling, blending, screening and packing

  • Reactivated carbon temperature to be cooled from 900C to about 60C before sieving
  • On-size reactivated carbon to be shipped via 20MT ISO tank or bulk bags. Off-size reactivated carbon to be either rework as commercial viable product or dispose as waste
Section 4: Waste heat recovery and Air Emission Control System

  • Treatment of flue gas containing volatiles and pollutants that were absorbed within the spent carbon before emission to the atmosphere
  • High thermal energy in high-temperature flue gas is recovered by Waste Heat Boiler to produce steam for Multi hearth furnace

Reactivation of SAC

01

In the multi hearth furnace, spent carbon is dropped off on the first bed and swept by the rake teeth, forming a mountain-like shape, to maximize contact area between the spent carbon and steam. The spent carbon will be dried and reactivated with steam.

02

3 stages within Multi hearth furnace

  • a)Drying – SAC is dried under 100 ~ 300°C in the first two upper hearth
  • b)Baking – SAC is baked under 400 ~ 600 °C in the third hearth to devolatise organic substances absorbed into the carbon pores and form fixed carbon on the surface of the activated carbon.
